Bagdad Flight a No-go!

Hey guy, I am back form and eternity of the Flu and just being really busy any way I have a few stories go through so let go straight into them:

First Do you remember
this story...........

The first flight from Iraq to the EU in 17 years takes place today. Swedish company Nordic Leisure is launching a once weekly non-stop from Copenhagen to Baghdad with an MD-80. This come just before Iraqi Airways announces it is drawing plans in conjunction with Air France-KLM to begin flight to Europe with in coming year. Other international arrival are expected in Baghdad.

Okay well basically this isn't happening anymore because the airline that launched this revolutionary extraordinary flight has........lost  it's licence! Yey! So we won't see any Eu ropean service until the Iraqi Airways-Air France thing goes through. To bad for Baghdad, I bet this airline mad some descent money from this flight because there really wasn't any competition. As for size of this emerging market, it really depends on the stability and progress in Iraq.

Our next story, Follow up on the OneWorld BA-AA anti-trust deal:

This story seemed really interesting, and alliance falling apart, ohhh! So I contact the British Airways Press office and they told me through a sea of legal speak, no comment. So maybe something is happening, but generally I expected a better response from an award wining press office.

The Last story for this post, United and American Airlines losing big time:

In my experience graphs don't lie. So American and United stock are down
for this week and so is there quarterly
profit or lack of profit. So the article said:
The company said its fourth-quarter net loss was $340 million, or $1.22 per share, compared with $69 million, or 28 cents per share, a year earlier.
United Airlines bet big and bet wrong on fuel prices, leading to its announcement Wednesday of a $1.3 billion fourth-quarter loss and 1,000 more layoffs.

So I just though I'd point out that the airlines are doing very well right but they will make it through not all of them but most airways will. I won't be surprised to see more airlines disappear. Just an few days ago FlyLAL Lithuania flag carrier collapsed. FLAG CARRIER folks, but don't worry there are enough innovative people in the industry that can save the airlines that deserve to be saved.

London Heathrow Plans Crippled

As reported by the Today In the Sky Blog:
Greenpeace an organization that has been blocking and hindering expansion at London Heathrow's Third Runway. Green Peace has know purchased land were the runway was supposed to be hence stopping the plans. A reactions by the BAA has not come out yet.
This form of environmental Harassment, not activism is a frightening trend especially in England. These actions may jeopardise the future of LHR as a world hub. If Asian airports are willing to expand thought the roof if necessary were will this leave Heathrow? Anyway this this trend started becoming disruptive when 50 protesters ran on to the runway  at London Stansted Airport. Hope these group can come to a consensus without further disruption.

Deutche Italia! Ciò che la? (What the?)

So Lufthansa what are we up to now? Global domination! Now Lufthansa Italia is launching from Milan to serve Italy to the rest of Europe with fares around 99 €. Apparently they are serving Paris and Barcelona at first then going out to Brussels, Budapest, Bucharest and Madrid with in a month. And by March London and Lisbon, they are running this airline with A319, initially with two(the ones scene above).

The A318 seat planes will be divided into thebusiness/economy. They are also claiming to bring "Italian Flair" by hiring Italian flight attendants, Italian foods and cabin designs. Will this outfit survive? Well only time will tell. However judging by how great Lufthansa is getting at this global domination thing it may crush the "new" Altialia "Airlines."

The thing we can count on for sure is that it will be a reliable airline with good service, high customer satisfaction and good start-up booking. Why do say this, because it is Lufthansa, although I poke fun at their attempt to conquer the world still the name guarantees a lot

One World Break up?

This in from Aviation week on Jan 7th about the possible break up on One World:
The issue of allowing anti-trust between British Airways and American Airlines is such a hard sell to regulators these days. The anti-trust has also been criticized by other airlines most notably Virgin Atlantic and Brasons "BA-AA no way" campaign. All other airline alliance have been givin these anti-trust deals, like the article mentions but the two massive airlines having their agreement go thorough would be a huge advantage the US to London Heathrow market. A large majority of US flights going to Europe, the Middle East, Africa and some parts of Asia go through LHR. In this light, an Anti-trust agreement is being viewed as a possible market monopoly. Now frankly BA has been whining about the agreement (more than AA perhaps) and how it sees no future in it's partnership with American. The question is: Is this just BA flexing some muscle to scare regulators? The answer to this will come from the action regulator take following this. Now how would this jeopardise One World, BA and AA well they are the backbone of One World and with out either the alliance would be great in Asia and that's about it. The last thing that comes to mind is why flex now BA? The answer is ,as the article mentions, British Airways is trying to merger with another major carrier and Does not want to be bought and merger. This merging game in Europe began with Air France-KLM and Lufthansa-Every Airline that is willing, so this agreement can help them until they can find a suitable spouse.

Airviation News Reel

WOW! A lot of news to cover today, some rather bizarre:

This from the Chicago Tribute:
United announces that it is laying off less employees that originally expected allowing it to keep maintenance at LaGuardia in New York. UAL originally announced that they were closing the base in January.

Okay before I go on I wanted to note something, I noticed getting the news from different sources that most TV stations, new papers and other media report stuff related to aviation and the title will say : "NWA announces route cuts" then it talks about a million other things like, United is charging for water, then Boeing delivers 737 to US airways" and it goes on and on about stuff i don't what to know, the best example is the link I have above you can see what I am saying.

In other news the Associated Press is reporting:
That many airlines are boosting capacity around the inauguration, I am sure you have heard this but the number are crazy. Southwest annocing 26 additional flight and Northwest Delta (thats how I'll reffer to them, my way of poking fun it at) about 5,000 seat with usage of "larger aircraft." They will probably still fill up the flights, but only time will tell anyway we all TV's and only a select few get in to the actual thing.

This one is a bit strange I will just quote directly:

Man Covered In Feces Attacks Flight Attendant

HOUSTON - An investigation is under way to figure out why a mental health patient was traveling alone on a Continental Airlines flight from Houston to Omaha, Neb., KPRC Local 2 reported Friday.

Passengers said the man left the plane's bathroom covered in his own waste on the Dec. 26 flight.

The commuter jet had one flight attendant, who moved passengers forward to empty seats and kept the unkempt passenger in the back row.

Stacey, a passenger on the plane who requested her last name not be revealed, said the man attacked the flight attendant.

"I hear all of this ruckus and yelling," she said. "I turned around and the poor flight attendant is on his back and the guy is, like, punching him."

Stacey said other passengers came to the flight attendant's aid.

"It's almost like a scene out of a movie," Stacey said. "There were two male passengers behind me that got up and kind of got the guy off of him. The poor steward, he got a black eye."

The man was not arrested, but was turned over to mental health professionals from a care center in Iowa where he reportedly lives.

The U.S. attorney's office said proving criminal intent could be difficult because of the man's mental state. The FBI will investigate how the man was allowed to fly unsupervised. He was taking a holiday trip from Chicago to Houston to Omaha.
